Fern & Thistle Counseling
“One day, you finally knew what you had to do, and began … determined to save the only life you could save.”
-The Journey, Mary Oliver

Therapy is a tool of liberation. Whether you’re seeking freedom from the effects of traumatic experience, from the harsh voice of your inner critic, or from the burdens of oppressive systems, I believe that therapy is about getting out from under those confines and stepping into a grounded and unapologetic relationship with your core self. One of the big lies of oppressive systems is that you're on your own. You're not. We're all in the work of getting free together.
I'm a trauma therapist with a background in anti-sexual violence work and healthcare chaplaincy. I identify as queer, non-binary, and neurodivergent (ADHD). I have a Master’s in Social Work from UNC-Charlotte and a Master’s in Divinity from Duke University.
I welcome clients of all identities, and I particularly enjoy working with members of the LGBTQIA+ community as a trans-, poly-, kink-, and ace-affirming therapist.
Grounded, relational therapy
I consider the relationship between therapist and client to be an important part of the therapeutic process, so I strive to bring authenticity, honesty, validation, and humor (when it's appropriate) to my sessions, and I customize my approach to each individual client. My goal is for my clients to feel seen, validated, and fully supported in showing up as their perfectly imperfect selves.
I offer telehealth therapy for individual adults in North Carolina who are coping with trauma, depression, anxiety, dysfunctional family systems, and life transitions. I specialize in working with LGBTQIA+ adults around issues of marginalization distress and spiritual/religious trauma.
I do not use artificial intelligence (AI) for notes, session recording, or any other purpose. Your privacy and personalized care are of the highest importance.

In a perfect world, therapy would be free to anyone who needs it and therapists would also be fairly compensated for our work. Since that world doesn’t exist yet, offering sliding scale pricing is my way of trying to strike a balance between meeting my clients’ needs and my own as best I can.
My sliding scale is $80-$200. The following guide is intended as a reference tool for determining the rate that best suits your circumstances, but only you can determine what works best for you. Whatever rate you choose, that’s the rate you’ll pay, no questions asked.
$160-200: This tier is for those who are financially comfortable, have basic needs met with significant expendable income left over, and are not living paycheck to paycheck.
$120-160: This tier is for those who may experience some low-level financial stress, but are able to pay their bills and meet their basic needs regularly with some expendable income leftover.
$80-120: This tier is for those who regularly experience financial stress and anxiety and may occasionally struggle to meet basic needs.
I do not currently have slots available for low-cost or pro bono clients.
